Starry Mag Interview with Lauren Gottlieb

Filed under Glee Guest Stars, Glee Interviews by Rob on 10-05-2010

Lauren GottliebStarry Constellation Magazine seems to constantly be interviewing Glee cast members, and this time they chatted with actress Lauren Gottlieb. Lauren was on the dance competition show So You Think You Can Dance, and now is on Glee as a member of Vocal Adrenaline. Lauren talked about her experiences as a Vocal Adrenaline member in the interview, but if you listen to the extended podcast of their interview, you can also hear Lauren talk about some of the injuries on set and more! Make sure to check out the full interview on StarryMag.com and listen to a podcast of the interview, here.

Q. You’ll soon be seen again in Vocal Adrenaline on the show “Glee,” how did you get involved in the show?

A. It was an audition that I went on. I started in the pilot and that was 2008 when we auditioned. When I got on set the first time one of the creators came up to me and said that he was a huge fan of mine from “So You Think You Can Dance.” I don’t know if he was the one who chose me or what. I have a really funny story from that shoot, it was the pilot, and it was before they got really smart and realized that we don’t really necessarily have to choreograph a five minute dance number because there is only going to be a minute or a minute and a half that’s going to be played. They started us with a five minute number that you’re on set doing maybe twenty times or whatever it may be. My costume was really small, they had run out of the size that I needed, and they gave me a really, really small one. I couldn’t breath and I actually got so sick that I had to run off set a couple of times and I actually was throwing up. In the middle of shooting this crazy number I was running off and throwing up. The funny part is that another girl hurt her neck and had to go to the hospital. A couple of weeks later I get called in for another episode and the whole theme about the episode was how this girl was bulimic and she was throwing up and this other girl got whiplash and she had this neck brace on. They actually wrote our story into the script, it was really sad.

Q. Are there any “Glee” cast members that you’ve become friendly with from appearing on the show?

A. The girl who plays Brittany on the show, Heather Morris, we actually grew up together in Arizona and went to the same high school together. I’ve known her for forever and we were at two different dance studios. She’s a year older than I am and we were these funky, crazy people, and I looked up to her so much, and I was completely addicted to her energy. We were at rival dance studios but we kind of brought everyone together and nixed out all of that competition stuff. We had a blast growing up!

Starry Mag Interview with Heather Morris

Filed under Glee Interviews, Heather Morris by Rob on 12-04-2010

Heather MorrisStarry Constellation Magazine has yet another interview with a Glee cast member. This time, our friend Lisa had the pleasure of chatting with Heather Morris, who plays Brittany on the show. I must say, this was a really good interview. They talked about a lot of fun behind the scenes stuff and even asked some questions about Brittany’s future. Make sure to check out the full interview on StarryMag.com and listen to a podcast of the interview, here.

Q. A lot of people have been asking, does Brittany have a last name?

A. That’s probably the best question I’ve ever been asked because I don’t. I’ve always asked Ryan, “Does Brittany have a last name?” He’s like, “No, I think you’re just Brittany.” We call her Brittawny as a joke, her nickname is Brittawny. She’s the only one on the show who doesn’t have a last name.

Q. “Glee” has some of the best comedic moments and lines, as does your character Brittany. She may not say much now, but what she does say is hilarious.

A. A lot of the stuff they give me will be last minute, it won’t be in the script, and they’ll just kind of throw it at me on set. They’ll run a scene and then Ryan will be like, “Ok Heather, I want you to say this.” It’s always fun because it’s so out of nowhere, I don’t even know what he’s going to give me to say. There actually have been a couple of times where I’ll jokingly say something in a scene and he’ll be like, “Oh that’s in, that’s in,” and he’ll use stuff that I say. It’s always fun because it’s so simple, no-brainer random stuff.

Q. So you have moments of adlibbing with your lines?

A. One time specifically in one of the new episodes that will be airing on Tuesday there was a line in a choir scene. In the middle of the scene I was joking and Jonathan Groff who plays Jesse St. James was standing next to Mr. Schuester, played by Matthew Morrison, and they looked identical. At the end of the joke I said, “Mr. Schue, is he your son?” Ryan started cracking up and he was like, “I’m using it!”

Starry Mag Interview with Iqbal Theba, AKA Principal Figgins

Filed under Glee Interviews by Rob on 01-02-2010

Cory Monteith and Taylor SwiftStarry Constellation Magazine has interviewed a lot of the cast members of Glee before, and their latest features Iqbal Theba, who you probably know as the hilarious Principal Figgins. The interview has a couple light spoilers, and I really enjoyed it! Definitely take the time to read it. :)

They’ll be interviewing Josh Sussman (who plays Jacob Ben Israel) next, so send them your questions if you have any!

Q. Where do you draw from for your portrayal of Principal Figgins?

A. Basically I read the script and just tried to get the feeling for it. I also knew Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk because I had done “Nip/Tuck” for them before “Glee.” I knew their sensibility and what they want and then accordingly I read it. I also go by my gut feeling, wherever my gut takes me, I go. He’s very different from the guy that I played in “Nip/Tuck,” that guy was much more self assured and arrogant. Figgins is somebody who wanted to be a CEO, but is not for some reason, whatever it may be. He wanted to be rich like Lee Iacoca or somebody but now he has to live with the fact that he is a principal at a small town high school. It kind of shows on his body and the language he uses and the way he acts. I thought he’s a guy who wanted to be somebody big but he’s not and now he has to deal with it. He has to deal with all of these trivial things on a daily basis, like money, the students, the teachers, and Sue, they come at him with the speed of light. I think of all of that and try to incorporate it in my behavior and just play it and basically just say the words. It’s written so well, it’s written really, really well.

Q. The back nine episodes will begin airing in April, what can you tell us will be happening with the show and with your character?

A. We don’t really read beyond one or two episodes. I don’t think any of the cast members have any idea what’s going to happen in the number seven or eight or nine episodes. I know Jane Lynch puts me in an awkward situation, I can’t really tell you much, I don’t think I am supposed to. It becomes really embarrassing for the principal again. It’s going to be really interesting, poor Figgins has to suffer at the hands of Sue. Figgins new found power from the last episode that aired isn’t going to last too long.
