Lea Michele and Kristin Chenoweth to Star in Animated “Dorothy of Oz”!

Filed under Glee TV Show News, Lea Michele by Tinkers on 14-01-2010

Shrine Auditorium lea2

I think you all will be as ecstatic as I am to learn that Lea Michele and Kristin Chenoweth, who’s already spent some time over in Oz originating the role of Galinda in the Broadway blockbuster “Wicked” (but I’m sure you already knew that), will be reuniting on the big screen come 2011! The two will star in an animated feature film called ”Dorothy of Oz” in which Dorothy, voiced by Lea Michele, is said to return to the land of Oz in a whole new set of adventures. Kristin Chenoweth will be lending her voice, not to Glinda, but to a new character called the China Doll Princess.

Rumors of other characters are rampant as well – the Scarecrow is said to be voiced by Dan Aykroyd (of SNL, The Blues Brothers, and Ghostbusters fame), the Tin Man by Kelsey Grammer (Cheers, Fraiser, The Simpsons) , and the Cowardly Lion by James Belushi (According to Jim). She returns to find her old friends missing in action, only to make some  magical new ones — including a man made entirely of Mashmallows and Kristin’s China Doll Princess, described as a woman who uses bossiness to cover her fragility. They team up to bring down Oz’s newest villain, a Jester (voiced by Martin Short) who thinks all of Oz should be under his control.

The Dorothy of Oz website lists Disney animation vet Daniel St. Pierre as the film’s director, with songs written by country singer/songwriter Tift Merritt and lyricist Mike Himelstein and a score by Jim Dooley, who worked on Chenoweth’s former TV show Pushing Daisies.

A full list of the crew is available on the film’s website:  http://www.dorothyofozthemovie.com/.

Lea Michele on the Rachael Ray Show

Filed under Glee Interviews, Lea Michele by Rob on 20-10-2009

Lea Michele on the Rachel Ray ShowLea Michele will be on the Rachael Ray Show tomorrow, October 21st. Thanks to the magic of prerecorded daytime television, here are some quotes and an image from Lea’s appearance on the show!

Lea on who she wants to do a duet with:
“I really love Adam Lambert, and I would really love to sing with him because I think he is awesome…I’m kind of obsessed with him, I follow him on Twitter.”

Lea on being followed by the paparazzi:
“They don’t really follow me actually. We’re dorks, we’ll always be dorks…except for when we’re in groups of two. When I go out with Cory Monteith I find that they recognize us the most because they just see this insanely tall guy with this really short girl, and they’re like who are these people. I think it’s because we’re not the kind of kids to really go out.”

Lea Michele Profiled in Teen Vogue’s November Issue

Filed under Lea Michele by Rob on 15-10-2009

Lea Michele in Teen VogueTeen Vogue has as an article about Lea Michele and her character on Glee, Rachel Berry. You can check it out on their website or read it in their November issue.

Rachel Berry, the teenaged would-be drama queen at the center of Fox’s song-and-dance series Glee, would pretty much kill to be Lea Michele, the actress who plays her. After all, Lea made her Broadway debut at eight, stepping in as young Cosette in Les Misérables after an open call. “I’d never sung before,” the New York City native says. “My friend was auditioning, and I was like, ‘I want to go too!’ I just took to it.”

She appeared in Ragtime and Fiddler on the Roof and won the starring role in Spring Awakening at fourteen, sticking with the show for almost eight years as it went from early workshops to the Great White Way. (Nothing’s set in stone, but she “really, really wants” to appear in the forthcoming feature film version.) Now 23, she lives in L.A. with Glee costar Dianna Agron (who plays on-screen rival Quinn) and a pair of cats named for two characters in Hair. Meanwhile Ms. Berry, though talented, is still striving (and stuck in Ohio).

TV FIX Talks with Lea and Cory

Filed under Cory Monteith, Glee Episode Spoilers, Glee Interviews, Lea Michele by Rob on 28-09-2009

Lea Michele and Cory MonteithAustralian website TV FIX had the chance to talk to Lea Michele and Cory Monteith when they were on their promotional tour in Australia. Here’s an excerpt from their spoiler filled article.

Lea and Cory dropped some tasty tidbits about future episodes, revealing that the aforementioned romantic tension between Rachel and Finn will be complicated by the presence of his cheerleader girlfriend Quinn (Dianna Agron), and that fans of the show can start looking forward to some big musical numbers.

“There’s ‘Somebody to Love’ by Queen,” reveals Lea. “And Cory and I do ‘Smile’ by Lily Allen which is really cute. We also a Rolling Stones number. We do a lot of mash-ups, when you take to songs and mash them together — in one episode the boys do a mash-up and the girls do a mash-up, and that’s really cool.”

They’re especially looking forward to the 13th episode, which caps off the first half of season one.

“The glee club will be competing in sectionals [a sort of semifinal],” Lea says. “And we do a really great number — I’m not allowed to say what it is. But there’s some Barbara Streisand in the episode. There’s some kissing, there’s some fighting. There’s some crying.”

“And some cats come out of the bag,” hints Cory. “Two big cats.”

Lea Michele on Being a “TV Star”

Filed under Glee Interviews, Lea Michele by Rob on 30-08-2009

Lea Michele spoke with NY Daily about what it’s like to be a “TV Star” and how she viewed TV stars when growing up. It’s actually a very nice article and definitely worth a read. :)

Lea Michele“I never really thought there would be a place on television for me,” Michele told the Daily News. “I have a very specific look. I’m Jewish. I’m Italian.”

And now, she is a television star. The Bronx-born, Tenafly-raised Michele leads the cast of “Glee” – the Fox musical comedy already considered one of the hottest shows of the upcoming television season.

“I remember growing up and watching television, and there would be so many shows where I said I wish I could be as beautiful as her, or as cool as her,” Michele says. “I remember looking up to Barbra Streisand, and thinking, ‘Finally, someone who has a Jewish nose, who didn’t get a nose job.’”

Lea Michele: “Gleek” Beauty

Filed under Glee Interviews, Lea Michele by Rob on 22-08-2009

Lea Michele recently did an interview with Teen Hollywood. For your convenience, we’ve post it below. Click “Read the rest…” to see the full interview or you can read it here on Teen Music.

Dark-haired 22-year-old Lea Michele was a Broadway baby; born in NYC, she achieved her musical theater dream with roles in “Les Miserables”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Ragtime” and “Spring Awakening”. Now you can catch Lea taking some giant steps backward as she plays Broadway hopeful Glee Club highschooler Rachel in the Fox TV series “Glee” which starts its full season on September 9th.

The Gleester cast is now out on a ten city tour to meet the fans but we were able to chat with Lea recently before she left. She was all glammed up in a sexy black cocktail dress and looked so not nerd Rachel!

TeenTelevision: Wow! I almost didn’t recognize you! Hot make-up and that awesome dress. Do tell….

Lea: What I’m wearing is so not Rachel. I love it. This is Herve Leger and I feel very sexy in it. Totally different than my penny loafers I wear everywhere on set.

TeenTelevision: Rachel is so focused on her future career in the show. She almost seems snooty at times.

Lea: Well, Rachel is definitely driven but in upcoming episodes, you get to see the more vulnerable, romantic side of Rachel.

TeenTelevision: Is there an arc to your character? Will she change?

Lea: Rachel is very determined and I was that girl in high school. I was the one who knew what she wanted and who she was and wasn’t going to get side-tracked by the more silly stuff that people get obsessed with in high school, like partying. I was not like that at all. I was way more like Rachel. But, once she gets in Glee Club, I think it teaches her more about herself. She has a more vulnerable side. Her career is important but there is also this need for a partner and she definitely falls for Finn (played by hunky Cory Monteith).
