When at the DC stop of The Gleek Tour, Tinkers and I had the chance to interview some of the cast members of Glee! Here is a video of us asking some questions to Chris Colfer, Mark Salling, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Amber Riley. Then check back to this post for our video documenting the rest of the event, which was also edited by Tinkers. Thanks to all the cast for being so wonderful, the Hot Topic staff for helping us out and the people from Fox for making it all happen. The transcript is posted after the break. ["Read the rest..."]
Glee DC Hot Topic Tour – Cast Interviews - Transcript
By Rob and Tinkers
Tinkers: What do you think about all the hype the show has been getting?Mark Salling: I think that, uh… I think it’s great. You don’t want the expectations to be super, super high, but I guess that they are and that’s great.
Chris Colfer: I’m shocked. I had no idea that we had this much of a fan base and this much appeal.
Lea Michele: It’s been kind of crazy! I mean, we’ve only had one episode air and the fact that we’ve had the response we had and made the amount of fans that we have, it’s crazy but we’re really, really, really happy.
———Tinkers: People are saying it’s going to have like, a cult following:
Chris Colfer: I hope so! Nothing wrong with cults! Except for the dangerous ones… Those are bad – don’t join those.
———Tinkers: Do you guys ever play pranks on each other?
Lea Michele: Totally. Haha. Amber [Riley] is a big prankster. One time Amber left a post-it with a lip mark in someone’s trailer that said ‘I love you –love, Lea’ to this person.
Mark Salling: Uh, yeah we do. One of the last days of filming, we had all the dummies that were used to fill seats in an auditorium and so we put them in people’s trailers and they would come back to their trailers and freak out. And we stacked the up against a door so that they would fall out.
Chris Colfer: Somewhat, yes, we’re very childish with each other. I think we were actually on our Game Boys on the way here, drawing each other pictures and sending them to each other. So we’re very ‘youthful’. Haha.
Lea Michele: Did yall see what I did to Kevin [McHale]?
Kevin McHale: Which side is it?
Lea Michele: That side. [points to left side of neck] Check it out. [Camera zoom on lipstick mark on Kevin’s neck]
Kevin McHale: Abusive.
———Tinkers: What has been your favorite song to sing or record so far?
Mark Salling: Hmm… My favorite song…
Tinkers: That is if you actually sing …
Mark Salling: Ooh, good question. I actually do… My favorite song so far would be, probably, Sweet Caroline.
Lea Michele: My favorite song to sing… I got to do a Barbra Streisand song for the 13th episode and I really had a lot of fun singing a Lily Allen song.
Chris Colfer: Um, we did a song called Hate On Me, Hater. And half the dance was kind of improvised. I think the show will probably make it famous, more so than the original.
———Rob: So you play a popular jock in Glee, but what were you really like in high school?
Cory Monteith: I was unpopular and not a jock. So, quite the opposite. In high school, at that age, I would have been… I didn’t necessarily fall into any specific group. I wasn’t a jock, I wasn’t in musical theater, I wasn’t –
Rob: So kind of a ‘floater’?
Cory Monteith: Kind of a ‘floater’, yeah, man. I had a lot of different interests.
———Tinkers: So if you could be any other role on Glee, what would it be?
Chris Colfer: I would love to be Sue Sylvester. I think she’s my favorite role. Yeah, with the Cheerios? Oh, she’s hysterical.
Cory Monteith: I’d like to be Puck. Because my character is a really nice guy and Puck is like the ‘bad guy’, and I think whenever I’ve played a lot of “Nice Guys” so you kind of get sick of playing the nice guy and you want to be like the guy with the mohawk who beats the crap out of people.
———Rob: Other than the crush that we learn about in the first few episodes, is there any relationship drama in Mercedes’ future?
Amber Riley: Um, not that I know of. Not in the first 13 episodes, but maybe a little later.
———Rob: What’s one weird quirk that you have that you think most people wouldn’t know?
Cory Monteith: Haha. Dude, I am one weird quirk!
Lea Michele: Oh my gosh, I have a lot of weird quirks about me. That’s for damn sure. But I need a substantial amount of coffee to keep me going. I think I’m on number four or five right now.
Mark Salling: Uh… no. I’m very normal and boring. No– I like birds. I like birds and ornithology.
Chris Colfer: Well, besides my voice, I’m very clumsy and very awkward. I bump into things, I run into—You know, I’m surprised I managed to tie my shoes today, I really am.
Cory Monteith: Um… I love breakfast. Dude, seriously, you don’t even know. It’s really strange, I’ll eat breakfast for like every meal of the day.
Rob: Want to see something funny? [Pulls a Kellogg’s Corn Pops container from bag] Pops – at all times.
Cory Monteith: Haha! That’s awesome!
Rob: And, even better, check it out… [Pulls a Kellogg’s Pop-Tart case from bag] Pop-Tart container – to keep your Pop-tarts from getting smushed.
Cory Monteith: Wow, man. You got me beat. I thought I liked breakfast. I don’t carry it around in my bag, though.
Rob: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Cory Monteith: The most important meal…
———Tinkers: What has been you most memorable moment on the show?
Lea Michele: Oh my God, I think probably the final episode that we shot – the 13th. That musical number, we were like crying while we were filming.
Mark Salling: The most memorable moment for me is when Kristin Chenoweth was singing and I was sitting right behind her and she was singing right in front of me. It was awesome.
Chris Colfer: Oooh… I think when we were at Boston, which was our first stop, when we all walked out and everyone went crazy. That was very cool for all of us because none of us were really expecting that. That was pretty cool.
———Rob: So, there’s the Pilot, Showmance, Preggers and The Rhodes Not Taken. So I guess it’s five and six that we don’t know. Do you know what those episodes are called?
Amber Riley: I do, but I’m not going to tell you. Haha.
Rob: So I guess we’re just going to have to wait.
Amber Riley: Yes, you will. Anticipation is building. 9/9/09 at 9. [The airdate for the new episode, Showmance.]
Rob: Now, one thing we realized, when you’re talking to people in Central [Time Zone], what do you say? Because then it’s at 8[pm]. 9/9/09 at…
Amber Riley: 9/9/09 at 9… central?
[Laughs]
Rob: Ok, cool. Well, thank you for answering some of our questions.
Amber Riley: Thank you.
