Awkward ELLE Interview with Matthew Morrison
Posted by Rob on Dec-23-2009 under Glee Interviews, Matthew Morrison
Well if this doesn’t make you feel awkward, then I don’t know what will. Here’s an excerpt from an interview that ELLE Magazine did with Matthew Morrison. I’m not quite sure what was running through the interviewer’s mind for his first few questions/comments…
ELLE: So, Matt, you’re a musical theater star who’s been interviewed by The Advocate and much discussed on Manhunt.com, and you star in Glee, a program that’s referred to as “the gayest show on TV.” You must feel particularly proud being the first gay man to grace this page.
MATTHEW MORRISON: I’m not gay.
ELLE: I had indeed read in various places that you’re straight, but in light of the circumstantial evidence, I wasn’t sure.
MM: I grew up singing and dancing, so people have been calling me gay since fifth grade. I’ve heard everything you could possibly hear about it. But I do love gay people, so I’m not going to act like I was insulted or angry about it.
ELLE: But do you ever do anything to suppress your gayest traits? Like, on a club dance floor, will you keep a lid on your best moves in order not to look too much like Tommy Tune out there?
MM: Oh, yeah. I’ll do what I refer to as “the shoulder dance,” just, you know, move my shoulders and do a little head bobbing.

why did that person need to be invasive toward Matt?
What was that all about?
Who’s business is it who he sleeps with?
What the hell is wrong with that magazine??
Thats so embarrassing for him!! They shouldn’t just assume either way.
Does he even give off a gay vibe? I’ve never thought so, or is it just because theater, showtunes, broadway etc are just all considered somewhat gay?
That magazine is so mean. they would hate to be called gay so why do they call others gay?
i`m disgusted to hear that…
theater, showtunes, Broadway… are always called gay because of the gangsters like Chris brown, P!NK… ect are newer which make them more popular and theater, showtunes, Broadway -stuff like that- are more older and i have no clue why but they call it gay. Its just not fair. Everyone should have all rights to do stuff you know… its a free world- (rights to do anything but bad stuff)
I read the rest of this article in ELLE magazine and it continues its streak of awkwardness… they go on to talk about Salma Hayek and if ELLE would see rumors of Morrison and Hayek dating on tabloids. Morrison responded by saying that she’s married with a husband and kid. ELLE said something along the lines of “Oh come on, you need a man on every continent!” where Morrison said “I don’t need a man” … still picking up vibes from the interviewer that they were insinuating that he was gay.
Seriously ridiculous interview.
I was going to attempt to write a long essay about how ridiculous this is and that why do they not ask every straight person ‘how do you feel to be the seven hundred and sixty third (or whatever) person to be interviewed in this magazine. That’s just stupid.
However, i realized the magazine is not worth it and i love Matthew who ever he chooses to give his heart too.
